I’m recording this first-of-its-kind invitation to meet yourself where you are. And the intention of this recording is to truly find, for yourself, where you are — and to meet yourself where you are.
So here goes the invitation. The process, if one may want to call it that.
I’d like to invite you to be where you are. To deeply sense within — not just on your mind, not just in your mind, but in your body. Maybe take a deep breath, if that feels natural. Find a place that feels more comfortable to sit with this invitation. Sink into a chair. Lie on the floor. Sense what feels most natural, inviting, to you.
And so it’s not about recording something which is to reach outside. It is alive in me, and that’s the space that it’s coming from.
What are some of the ways that you sense and feel where you are? Not as something that has to be expressed in words, or known in words, through language or through means of something tangible. It can be just sensed — in the presence that you feel more deeply within yourself, in some part of your body.
It could be the way that you breathe. It could be the way that you relax into a certain posture. How you sense the contact of your body with the surface that you are sitting on, lying on.
Sense into yourself, in whichever way that you normally sense into yourself.
And if this invitation of sensing into yourself doesn’t seem to land — is not something that you can relate to, resonate with — then let it be that.
This is not an invitation to get somewhere. This is an invitation to be exactly wherever you are.
If you find yourself confused, be with that. If you feel all of this is too unfamiliar — bizarre, even — be with that.
If you sense a part of you is thinking, I’m familiar with this, and this is very basic; this is like just the first step of something that I usually do, you know, and I’m familiar with the next steps, and I want to go ahead — be with that knowing. Be with the knowing that this is basic for you, that you know a lot more.
I’d like to invite you to go back a couple of steps, and see if you can sense how you arrived here.
Did you arrive here because you decided to? Or because something in you knows that once you tune into something and listen to something, you need to follow? Or because something in you was ready, willing, available, open to exploring whatever comes?
Did you arrive here with a sense of curiosity, or a sense of apprehension?
Now that you’re here — what does it feel to be here? To sit with something that is raw, fumbly, not well-formed, without an agenda. What does it evoke in you?
Would it be okay if this is all it is going to be? Or do you need it to be something more? How would it feel to make more and more room for this to be just this — nothing more. Whatever this is, without putting a label on it.
If you want to continue with the silence, you can pause the recording, or stop it, and just be with where you are — wherever you have arrived.
Silence — about a minute
Be with it, even if there’s discomfort. Just be with the discomfort. If there’s something that wants to move out of this space, doesn’t want to stay longer — that’s okay.
A call to check in with your body, and see how it feels. To check in, now.
Is there a part of your body that would, in this moment, say yes to movement?
Is there a part of your body that would say yes to relaxation — just rest?
Is there a part of your body that feels an ache and wants to communicate? I mean, that was something that was being communicated throughout.
A part of your body that is in some sort of attention, with curiosity, and waiting.
If there’s a part of your body that’s waiting, you can let it know that it’s okay. Doesn’t need to wait. Doesn’t need to be ready for something. Nothing is expected, and everything is allowed to be exactly the way it is — including resistance to all of this.
Meet what is. Or not.
Silence
Stay with what is true for you.
Silence
Okay.
